J Paul Getty Museum at the Getty Center
Los Angeles, California
This project, to build a campus for the newly established Getty Trust and programs, was begun in 1983, and continued on for 14 years. The Museum building anchors the campus with the primary public spaces devoted to art exhibition, housing 110,000 sf of galleries, theaters, and event spaces, with associated administrative, curatorial, art conservation shops and laboratories, and preparation workshops.
The 385,000 sf building also houses the central plant and security operations for the 1-million sf arts and research campus. My role as project architect for the Museum afforded me the unparalleled opportunity to help create one of the cultural landmarks of Los Angeles.
